Golf History
It’s believed that golf is one of the oldest sports that man has practiced. In fact, there is evidence that golf was practiced by the ancient Chinese culture. It’s believed that golf began five centuries ago. In fact, golf was banned by James II of Scotland in a political act in March 1457. Most historians believe that the Scots were the first to play golf, but this has been discussed since they have found evidence in several Asian countries where this sport is even older.
Some historians have suggested that some shepherds who were bored in the field began to hit rounded rocks with their sticks and introduce them into holes made in the ground. They created a competitive game from an activity to they did kill time. Various forms of golf were still practiced during the fourteenth century. These types of games were practiced in several countries such as Holland, Belgium, Scotland and France. Although it has always been popular, the popularity of golf has been capitalized in the past decades and it seems that this popularity will continue to rise.
The vision of golf has also changed dramatically in the past few decades; this is partly due to the rise in popularity of Tiger Woods and other similar charismatic players. Golf is seen largely as an athletic sport where sometimes was considered as a sport for seniors. Continuing with this trend there have been modifications that have completely changed golf in a much more interesting hobby. This sport that was once associated with a sport for meetings between doctors or lawyers has been transformed into a great vacation package for all families. Several hotel chains have created complete vacation packages and whole neighborhoods have been developed around golf courses. The increase in the popularity of golf is undeniable and is only expected to increase further over the years.
